The Colibri Collective Receives Silver Pollie Award for Fashion Scarf Design

Women-led full-service marketing agency honored with political advertising’s most prestigious award for fashion scarf design for abortion fundraising campaign

The Colibri Collective announced today they are the recipients of a 2024 Pollie Award from the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC). This is the fourth consecutive year the Latina-owned, women-led, full-service marketing agency has been honored to receive one of political advertising’s most prestigious awards. They received the Silver Pollie Award in the Most Original/Innovative Collateral Material - Democrat for their work on the Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ) Scarf.

“The scarf my team designed for Planned Parenthood Arizona’s abortion fundraising campaign was an important highlight for them in 2023,” said Gaby Cardenas, CEO of The Colibri Collective. “We are honored to have this project recognized by the American Association of Political Consultants, especially at a time when women’s reproductive rights are in limbo due to the recent archaic ruling of one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.”

The Colibri Collective and PPAZ wanted to engage in a new, unique way with the many high-donor women and sponsors who were invited to attend PPAZ’s annual Fight For All Luncheon in October 2023. To do so, PPAZ gifted a beautifully designed scarf to event attendees. In addition to its designation as a gift, the scarf was used as a fundraising piece for Arizona For Abortion Access - a coalition of reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations, like PPAZ, working to “ensure Arizonans can make the decisions that are best for them and their families, free from government interference.”

The scarf was hand-illustrated by Colibri’s designer and printed on silk-like material. Illustrations on each corner of the scarf included three women of color and an outline of the state of Arizona, locally anchoring this piece. The interior design of the scarf featured iconography representing the services PPAZ offers.

Known as the “Oscars of political advertising”, the Pollies set the standard for excellence in the political communications and public affairs industries. All entries are evaluated on creativity, production value, and overall political effectiveness.
